Alou's 8th Inning HR Allows Mets To Beat Braves, 4-3

Hooray! I saw new acquisition Luis Castillo tie the game in the 7th with a 2-out 2-run single but Missed the the rest of the game. Moises Alou hit a homer in the bottom of the 8th & The Mets won, 4-3. Many children rejoiced & puppies wagged their tails.

Mets Lose Opener To Braves, 7-3

Carlos Perez got rocked. Mets Lose. The End.

Mets are 3.5 up on ATL still & the Fillies beat up on the Merlins, 11-1 to move to 4 back of the Mets.

Glavine Gets 300th Win

Hugs for 300!

Quick update. Glavine got his 300th win last night. His wife is hot. Her friend/sister ain't bad either. The Mets won, I forgot the score b/c I was drunk.

Mets remain 4.5 & 5 GA ahead of Hotlanta & Philadouchia.

Mets play the Ted Turners starting on Tuesday. Hooray for pants.

Maine Struggles With Control, Mets Lose, 6-2

"Sorry, John, today you're the bug on the windshield."

There, Tookes! All even after yesterday with the rubber match tonight on da ESPN as the Mets went down to the Cubbies, 6-2, yesterday afternoon.

John Maine struggled with his control constantly falling behind Cubs hitters which led to a 6 run 3rd inning where all the Cubs' damage was done with 2 outs. Disappointing outing for Maine who as coming off a 1-hit shutout, albeit a rain-shortened 5 inning one.

The Mets also could only muster 2 runs off of Moises Alou's 2 dingers as Ted Lilly pitched very well for the Cubs constantly getting the Mets with inside 3rd strikes.

Atlanta won, Phillies lost so they flip flop & are now 4.5 & 5 GB, respectively.

Tom Glavine (9-6) going for #300 again faces Jason Marquis (8-6) for the Cubs tonight. Gametime 8:05 EDT.

Yet another new feature in the neverending depth of my mind, I'm going to start a CD review archive. I'm not going to review any & all cds b/c frankly I'm not as cool as the dudes in the music biz or magazine biz that get advanced copies of whatever. Nay! I am going to review CDs that are in my CD library & hope maybe it'll wake some people up to the beautiful brutal chaos that is:

METAL

Now, not all CDs I have are metal but most of them are. So I'm starting with the metal CD that forever changed my musical world, Metallica's 1988 epic, ...And Justice For All.

...And Justice For All was released by Metallica in 1988 when they were at the pinnacle of the metal music world & the rulers of a kingdom which they had built themselves the old-fashioned way: on strictly word of mouth, bootleg tape swapping (oh the irony there for current Metallica!) & non-stop touring & high-energy live sets.

Metallica had always dabbled in the epic song structures of 5-6 minute songs starting with Ride The Lightning, expanded it on Master Of Puppets & then coming out with an album full of 6, 7, even 9-minute plus epics. This album introduced me to the concept of "the long song" & how a song can "change in the middle of it." Little layman's terms from back in the 13 yr. old days.

Metallica even scored a Top 40 hit off this album with the antiwar metal classic with the famous several minute machine gun jam outro, One, which was the first real metal song I had ever heard & I was instantly hooked the 1st listen. Audio heroin, if you will.

This album has it all, all the obligatory guitar licks, memorable riffs, solos, tempo changes, differing time signatures, complex song structures, bridge & interlude laden tracks, you name it. A true air guitarists' dream this album is. Nothing overly complex but enough licks to make your buddies' go, "Whoooooa, dude... do you like... play guitar & stuff?"

Great album lyrically as well with songs ranging from death of the planet, the corruption of government & the justice system, societal decay, all the usual metal topics but well written.

The only drawback of the album is the thin production. The guitars sound "hollow" compared to today's metal sound production (to be fair most 80s metal does though) & then there's the infamous lack of audible bass sound on the album.

If this album had come out say 10 years later when metal sound production had really developed to get all the nuances of layers of a band's compositions to be able to be discerned, it'd be the best overall metal album of all-time, IMO. As it is, I still easily put in my personal top 5 albums of of all-time just on song compositions alone.

Not a dull moment on the album, IMO & the music on this album does a really good job of relaying the dark & depressing & sometimes reflective somberness of the songs' themes. My favorite tracks on the album are the title track ...And Justice For All & the almost-instrumental, To Live Is To Die, which is one of my favorite songs of all-time.

This was also the full album debut for bassist Jason Newsted replacing the legendary Cliff Burton who had died a couple years prior. And of course there was the infamous Jethro Tull winning the inaugural metal grammy over this album... f*cking ridiculous...

Mets Top Cubs With 4 In The 9th

Slap hands!

The Mets took advantage of a controversial (to the Cubs) ball call by Ryan Dempster on a 2-2 count to David Wright which eventually led to a walk, to explode for 4 runs in the 9th at Wrigley & top the Cubs, 6-2.

Another good outing from El Duque even though he got a no decision & the Mets looked to have squandered numerous men left on base from Carlos Zambrano's 7 walks through 5 innings.

Dempster threw a pitch just off the plate that Cubs fans' thought had caught the outside corner & David Wright walked on the next pitch. Carlos Delgado then laced the next pitch from Dempster down the right field line & Wright scored to give the Mets the go-ahead for good. Then after Marlon Anderson & Ramon Castro were retired the Mets got 4 2-out singles in a row by Shawn Green, Ruben Gotay, pinch-hitter Moises Alou & Jose Reyes scoring 3 more runs in all & battering Ryan Dempster for 4 runs in 1 inning in relief.

Bill Wagner came on to close out the 9th retiring 3 in a row after giving up 2 singles to lead off the bottom of the 9th.

Mets win their 3rd in a row with Philly & Atlanta playing tonight & currently, respectively. The Mets are 4.5 up on Philly & 5 up on Atlanta at the time of this posting...

Mets Crush Brewers In Series Wrap, 12-3

Bats alive! Mets crushed the Brewers this afternoon, 12-3. Zephyrs call-up, Brian Lawrence, actually got the start for the Mets this afternoon & went 5 innings to get the win. David Wright & Jose Reyes both homered as did Damion Easley but his was of the inside the park variety. Wright was also 4-for-5.

The Phillies won this afternoon to remain 4 GB & Atlantedturner plays the Lastros at 7:35 & are 4 GB pending the result tonight.

Mets move on to Chicago (bang!bang!) for a 3 games series with the Cubbies starting tomorrow.

Mets Bats Come Alive, Top BrewHaHas, 8-5

Oliver Perez started out slow & according to his catcher, Ramon Castro, "hyper," but eventually settled down & began to pitch well eventually striking out 10 through 6 innings to help lead the Mets to an 8-5 victory over Milwaukee.

Castro homered early for the Mets, Marlon Anderson hit a 3-run homer that gave the Mets the lead for good in the 3rd & Shawn Green hit a solo shot in the 6th off of Manny Parra for the Brewers who pitched really well in 6 2/3 of relief I have to say.

The win has the Mets remaining 3.5 in front of the Braves & 4 GA of the Phillies.

Quick turnaround the Mets as they another afternoon matinée with Jorge Sosa scheduled to go against Chris Capuano for the brewers.

Mets Lose In Extra Innings, Glavine Still On 299

The Mets bullpen gave up a 2 run lead in the 8th to deny Glavine his 300th win for now. The Brewers forced extra innings, 13 of them to be exact & forced me to stay up about an hour later than I wanted! Poop!
