They looked iffy doing it but the US U-20 soccer team advanced to the U-20 World Cup Quarterfinals on Tuesday night with a hard fought 2-1 win over poor sports, Uruguay.
The US was outplayed overall in my opinion & looked pretty shaky at the back at times & the Uruguayans were very clever with "drawing fouls," read as "leaving your foot low & then over exaggerating the body spasm with quick leg lift to make sure the ref saw the hideous, blatant bone-crunching tackle. Oh yes, don't forget to grab alleged broken body party with one hand grab your head with the other & writhe. Writhe, Uruguay! Ohhhhhh the pain! Fuckers.
And of course there was the obligatory harassing & yelling at the referee for every single call that went against the Uruguayans. South American teams are so piss poor at sportsmanship. There was also the stamping of Josimar Altidore's foot by a Uruguayan before a free kick that went unnoticed by the ref & 2 linesmen, the elbow thrown to Danny Szetela's head by a Uruguayan strike. Thankfully it only grazed him, but the intent was there & it was done after an action that did not merit a retaliation such as that- some trash talking & the normal jostling that goes on during a set piece in the box.
And for the Uruguayans' coup de grace there was the pushing & shoving altercation between the 2 teams after the final whistle done b/c well, frankly, the Uruguayans like many South American teams (& Mexico) can't ever lose a game, especially to the U.S. w/o feeling aggrieved or with their honor hurt, so in their poor sportsmanship they try to incite a brawl or antagonize the winning team. They're such fuckers. The Argentinian World Cup team of 1990 comes to mind when I see things like this. That team was the biggest bunch of whiny-assed sore losers ever. This Uruguayan youth team wasn't far off of from them.
Anyway, the U.S. didn't look particularly good in this match. I'm not impressed with Freddy Adu at all. He tends to stand around too much for my liking when he could make darting runs on give & gos. Frankly, I more impressed with Josimar Altidore's game.
US goals were an own goal by a Uruguayan future llama herder & Michael Bradley in extra time. The Uruguayan goal was scored by some maté sipping crybaby.
Highlights:
Clip of the altercation with different announcers. Listen to the announcer- "Uruguay are traditionally very, very poor losers..." See, I'm not just a bigot, my stereotyping is warranted:
Remind them one more time what the score was, Michael Bradley! 2-1, Uruguay! Eat a Dick!
